Welcome to the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation of Australia and New Zealand (SCTFANZ) website. We are a registered not-for-profit organisation that provides educational programs for osteopaths. We have been successfully delivering programs within Australia and New Zealand for over 25 years. Our focus is programs that developed from the work of Dr William Garner Sutherland who was an osteopathic practitioner researcher. His key contribution to osteopathic knowledge was five phenomena that he believed underpinned osteopathic treatment. He developed techniques to go with his five phenomena and these form the nucleus of the teaching programs offered by the SCTF of ANZ.
A hallmark of our practical programs is to a high tutor to student ratio. This is either 1:4 or 1:6. That means at least one tutor to 2 or 3 learning pairs. We do this because we believe that ‘handing on the experience’ is highly important in the teaching process. This gives the learning student a validated experience and the opportunity to ask questions about their particular situation. We believe this helps each student take back their new learning to their particular clinical environment.
The SCTF of ANZ courses are here to ensure that practitioners are able to support and improve their clinical practice: helping their patients clinical experience, providing techniques to support patient-centred practice and providing strategies to help in the treatment the wide variety of patient situations.
